How can I pay for LASIK
How to make vision correction affordable?
Many companies offer their employees a benefit called "flex plan" or "cafeteria plan". A flex spending account (FSA) can be used for vision correction procedures such as LASIK or CK.
What happens?Money in an FSA is exempt from taxes (federal state, social security).
FSA's do have limits, $5000 by law, but most employers limit to $2000
or $3000. FSA's are not just saving accounts. For example, if you
make $40,000 per year and pay 16% federal tax, 6% state tax, and 7.65%
FICA tax, your total payroll taxes would be $11860. If you contribute
$3000 to your FSA then you would pay $37,000 in taxes, giving you
a $900 savings.
To learn more ask your benefits manager if your company offers FSA's. Enrollment
is usually once a year.
